Exploring Business Activism

Is there more to business than just making profit?

This event will be a venue for the sharing of ideas and evolving leadership with the aim to link organisations in supporting a much-needed societal change to create ecologically based economies founded upon sustainable consumption.

Can we collaborate to become the driving force that ends overconsumption and unsustainable business? How best can business push for the taxation and regulation we need to cut emissions by 7% per year, as required by science?

Join a select group of influential people who will come together in person at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland to support new thinking about the role of industry in leading the transition to environmental sustainability.

Sunday 1 May - Wednesday 4 May 2022

“Carbon emissions have to decline by 45% from 2010 levels over the next decade in order to reach net zero by 2050.

If some companies and industries fail to adjust to this new world, they will fail to exist.”

Mark Carney, UN Special Envoy for
Climate Action and Finance and former Governor of the Bank of England

  • Paul Dickinson. Co-founder and Executive Chair of CDP, which utilises investor authority to request corporations to gather and disclose detailed information including greenhouse gas emissions and strategy on climate change.

Our vision is to bring together representatives of business, of finance, of charities, of NGOs, consultants, and academics to collaborate, planning collective action and identifying the necessary steps needed to prevent catastrophic climate.

Longer term, we hope to facilitate productive partnerships and networking opportunities to enable this new thinking to be nurtured and applied, progress being measured in action.

Themes:

  • Civil society
  • Citizen or employee
  • Planet before profit?
  • Collaboration or competition?

Even with net zero targets, functioning carbon markets and nationally determined contributions in line with the goals of the Paris agreement, we are still on course to far exceed the limits of greenhouse gas emissions that are needed to avoid ecological catastrophe. There are many business coalitions and trade associations doing good work in driving sustainability initiatives within their sectors, some to great effect. But we need to do more, faster and with a collective voice because of the strength of the least sustainable industries exerting considerable influence over the political system.
